Lead the engineers, systems and infrastructure that keep a complex, multi-site estate running safely, reliably and brilliantly.
Our Engineering & Facilities Manager
This is a technical, engineering-led facilities role with responsibility for leading and developing a multidisciplinary engineering team across The Newt’s diverse estate. The focus is firmly on building services, plant, infrastructure, engineering compliance and maintenance rather than soft facilities services. You’ll take ownership of planned and reactive maintenance through CMMS, drive asset reliability and minimise downtime, while working closely with operational teams and specialist contractors to keep our buildings, equipment and infrastructure performing at their best. From engineering standards and compliance to budgets, contractors and continuous improvement, this is a varied leadership role at the heart of a complex operation.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, recruit, develop and support an expanding multidisciplinary engineering team across a range of trades.
- Oversee planned and reactive maintenance through CMMS, ensuring work is prioritised effectively and asset downtime is minimised.
- Coordinate engineering and maintenance activity with hotel operations, production, housekeeping and visitor attraction teams to minimise disruption.
- Maintain high standards of engineering health, safety and compliance, including RAMS, COSHH, PPE and training requirements.
- Manage specialist contractors and external suppliers, including scheduling works, reviewing RAMS and coordinating access and permits.
- Monitor servicing, maintenance and operational R&M budgets, ensuring resources are used effectively.
- Report on engineering works, asset condition and compliance to the Head of Engineering and operational business leaders.
- Support Duty Engineers when required and deputise for the Head of Engineering.
What we can offer
- A positive workplace environment with opportunities to develop both personally and professionally.
- Peace of mind with Employee Life Cover, providing your nominated loved one with 2x your salary.
- Support from our Employee Assistance Programme, including unlimited 24/7 remote GP appointments for you and your family.
- Look after your wellbeing with complimentary access to our Spa and swimming pools and our exclusive benefit of 50% off Spa Treatments.
- Stay in shape with complimentary use of our gym and wellbeing classes.
- Access to our Cycle to Work scheme, supporting wellbeing and sustainable commuting.
- Complimentary staff meal when onsite – crafted by our dedicated kitchen team, often featuring fresh produce from our estate.
- Enjoy shopping in both our shops on estate and online with 30% discount for all our colleagues and free delivery for any online purchases.
- Complimentary garden membership for The Newt and our partner gardens, including the Eden Project, Kew Gardens and The Lost Gardens of Heligan.
- We value your hard work and recognise your achievements through our colleague recognition programme – Newt Awards, with the opportunity to achieve amazing rewards, including a complimentary Hotel Stay.
- Discover exclusive perks with discounted hotel stays for staff, accompanied by a 30% discount at our restaurants.
- A team that knows how to have fun with regular team engagement activities, including Fun Squad events.
- Up to 30 days annual leave each year for our full-time team.
What we're looking for
- Qualified and time-served in an engineering discipline, such as Electrical, Mechanical, Plumbing & Heating, Refrigeration or HVAC.
- Proven experience leading engineering or technical facilities operations across multiple sites, ideally within a complex operational environment.
- Strong knowledge of building services, plant, infrastructure and planned maintenance principles.
- Confident using CMMS systems to manage maintenance activity, assets and workflows; experience with Infraspeak would be advantageous.
- An experienced people leader who can mentor, develop and motivate engineers across different technical disciplines.
- Strong contractor management skills, with a sound understanding of RAMS, permits, compliance and safe systems of work.
- Able to communicate technical issues clearly to both engineering specialists and non-technical operational colleagues; Siemens BMS experience would be advantageous.
- A calm, practical and decisive leader with strong organisational skills; an engineering degree, trade qualification and/or NEBOSH General Certificate would be advantageous.
Where you'll be working
The Engineering Department looks after the Company's assets (Buildings, IT Infrastructure, Mechanical plant, and Vehicles), conducting scheduled checks and preventive maintenance in all areas of the estate. Engineering also responds to guest requests should they have issues and to colleague requests from across the estate.
