Our Food & Beverage Team Member

Join the opening team at The Angel Inn, a new pub with rooms in the heart of Castle Cary, created by The Newt in Somerset. From pouring a perfectly served pint to welcoming guests for dinner or checking them into one of our three guest suites, you’ll help make every visit feel warm, relaxed and thoughtfully cared for.

Working across the bar, restaurant and guest accommodation, you’ll bring confident service, an eye for detail and a willingness to get involved wherever you’re needed. Ahead of opening, you’ll take part in training and soft testing, getting to know our menus, systems and service standards alongside your new colleagues. This zero-hours opportunity will suit someone who enjoys varied hospitality work and can offer flexibility, particularly at weekends.

Key Responsibilities

• Welcome guests and deliver warm, attentive service across the bar, restaurant and guest accommodation.
• Take food and drink orders, provide table service and prepare drinks, including coffees, draught beers, wines and cocktails.
• Process payments accurately and support restaurant bookings and guest check-in and check-out.
• Answer guest questions, respond to requests and refer more complex matters to the appropriate colleague.
• Keep bar and service areas stocked, including changing kegs and casks and completing beer-line cleaning.
• Maintain clean, organised spaces, including cleaning glassware, polishing cutlery and supporting pot wash when needed.
• Complete opening and closing duties and follow food hygiene, allergen and health and safety procedures.
• Take part in pre-opening training and work closely with kitchen, housekeeping and front-of-house colleagues to deliver a consistent guest experience.

What we’re looking for

• A warm, welcoming approach and confidence building natural relationships with guests and colleagues.
• Bartending skills, including pouring draught beer and preparing alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks and cocktails.
• Barista skills and the ability to prepare coffees consistently.
• Confidence changing kegs and casks safely and completing beer-line cleaning.
• Accurate order taking and payment handling, with training provided on our specific systems.
• An understanding of food hygiene, allergens and safe working practices.
• A positive, practical approach, with the ability to stay calm during busy service and support the wider team.
• Flexibility for weekend working, with availability for evening and bank holiday shifts.

The Angel is a new pub with rooms in the heart of Castle Cary, created by The Newt in Somerset and shaped by the same respect for place, seasonality and thoughtful hospitality that runs through the estate. Rooted in the town and its community, The Angel will serve food and carefully chosen drinks, with ingredients drawn from The Newt in Somerset estate and trusted producers wherever possible. Alongside the pub, three individually designed guest suites provide accommodation in Castle Cary. The team works across food and beverage service and guest accommodation, collaborating closely with kitchen and housekeeping colleagues to maintain consistent standards throughout the guest experience.
