Keep the shelves stocked, the data sharp, and our supply flow seamless – become the heartbeat of our merchandising team!

Our Junior Merchandiser

In this role you will provide support to the Senior Merchandising Manager with forecasting, ordering & maintaining accurate stock control within the central warehouse. You will be a key player in managing stock levels via updating forecasts from departments around the wider estate.

Your day-to-day will include reviewing stock movements, raising purchase orders, communicating orders to suppliers and booking in deliveries with our warehouse team.

A key part of your role will be the ongoing maintenance of forecasts from our hospitality departments, such as kitchens, bars, housekeeping and the various parts of our visitor attraction. You will need to regularly identify and sit with key stakeholders from each department to confirm their active product lists. Against these lists, you’ll use historical stock movements and knowledge of upcoming seasonal changes/events to predict usage and feed this into our orders for central stock holding.

You’ll maintain shelf-life information for our food & drink products, identifying and taking remedial action early if products become high-risk or short-dated, working with the Retail and E-com teams to track wastage and report this back to our Buying Team.

For each order placed you’ll make sure the delivery is either booked in with our Goods in warehouse team, or pass on the contact details for our warehouse manager, for Suppliers to book a delivery slot. You’ll monitor the delivery calendar and chase with suppliers, any orders not delivered when expected.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage supplier relationships, raising POs and negotiating terms.
  • Produce weekly trade reports with clear, insightful commentary.
  • Partner with Buying to forecast and manage stock across categories.
  • Review the order book; pace deliveries to rate of sale.
  • Work with Goods-In and Accounts to reconcile invoices and request credit notes.
  • Monitor the delivery calendar and proactively chase late orders.
  • Track shelf life/BBE to minimise wastage through regular reporting.
  • Keep supplier/product data current and set up new products on our systems.

What we can offer (Key words highlighted bold)

  • A positive workplace environment with opportunities to develop both personally and professionally.
  • Stay in shape with our complimentary use of our gym and wellbeing classes
  • Look after your wellbeing with complimentary access to our Spa and swimming pools and our exclusive benefit of 50% off Spa Treatments.
  • Enjoy shopping in both our shops on estate and online with 30% discount for all our colleagues and free delivery for any online purchases.
  • Discover exclusive perks with our Discounted hotel stays for staff, accompanied by a fantastic 30% discount at our restaurants.
  • Complimentary garden membership for the Newt and our partner gardens including the Eden Project, Kew Gardens and The Lost Gardens of Heligan
  • Complimentary staff meal each shift – crafted by our dedicated kitchen team, often featuring fresh produce from our estate.
  • We value your hard work and recognise your achievements through our colleague recognition programme “Newt Awards” with the opportunity to achieve a variety of amazing rewards including a complimentary Hotel Stay.
  • Support from our Employee Assistance Programme for both yourself and your family including unlimited 24/7 remote GP appointments
  • A team that knows how to have fun with regular team engagement activities including Fun Squad events, which include activities such as Go-Karting and Wine Tasting, to name but a few.
  • Up to 30 days annual leave each year for our full-time team

What we’re looking for

  • Excellent Excel skills.
  • Solid grasp of finance workflows: sales orders, POs and invoicing.
  • Experience in retail, procurement or merchandising for consumer products.
  • Supplier-relations confidence, including basic negotiation.
  • Understanding of warehouse ops and the goods-in process.
  • Strong written and verbal communication.
  • Fantastic time management; able to juggle multiple priorities.
  • Collaborative teammate across finance, warehouse ops, buyers and producers.

Where you’ll be working

The Product Team is responsible for every aspect of product across the estate covering retail in our shops and online, products for hospitality, events and wholesale. The team includes buying and merchandising, new product development, packaging and procurement.

The Product Team will work alongside the various internal departments to help to develop the product proposition of the key pillars of the estate: hotel, gardens, visitor attractions as well as the butchery, creamery, productive growing and bakery, adding products that complement these pillars and fit with The Newt’s vision: prioritising seasonality, sourcing or producing the highest quality products, and using local suppliers where possible.

Inside of the Product Team, the Merchandising Team keeps accurate stock control of food, drinks, packaging and consumables. Our aim is to keep all lines in stock whilst minimising wastage via careful tracking of BBE dates. We keep clear, managed records of stock to give the wider estate full visibility on product availability from our centralised warehouse.
