Our Kitchen Porter
Join the opening team at The Angel Inn, our community-led pub with rooms in the heart of Castle Cary. As our Kitchen Porter, you’ll help keep the kitchen clean, organised and ready for service, supporting a small team serving seasonal, produce-led pub food. From keeping cookware sparkling to helping with basic food preparation, your contribution will make a difference to every service. As part of the opening team, you’ll also support the pre-opening set-up and help establish the kitchen operation and ways of working from the outset. If you’re reliable, enjoy practical work and are happy to lend a hand, we’d love to hear from you.
Key Responsibilities
- Keep the kitchen, wash-up and back-of-house areas clean, hygienic and organised.
- Wash and correctly store crockery, cookware, utensils and kitchen equipment.
- Polish cutlery and bar glassware, ensuring clean items are ready for service.
- Help with basic food preparation, following instructions and food safety procedures.
- Run food to guests’ tables and support the wider food and beverage team when needed.
- Assist with deliveries, storage, waste and recycling.
- Follow food safety, cleaning and health and safety procedures, reporting any concerns promptly.
- Support the pre-opening set-up, helping establish the kitchen operation and ways of working from the outset, and complete an induction at The Newt in Somerset before starting at The Angel Inn.
What we can offer
- A complimentary staff meal each shift, helping you feel ready for the day ahead.
- Complimentary garden membership, with entry for up to six accompanying guests when you visit.
- Support for you and your partner or children through our wellbeing programme, including 24/7 remote GP appointments.
- Discounts at leading high-street brands.
- A team that knows how to have fun, with regular team events.
- Access to a portion of your earnings through Stream.
- 30% off across our restaurants and retail shops.
- Recognition for your contribution through our Newt Awards programme.
- 50% off hotel stays, subject to authorisation.
- 50% off spa treatments for you and one guest.
What we are looking for
- A reliable, organised approach and pride in doing a job thoroughly.
- A positive attitude and willingness to help wherever needed.
- The ability to work efficiently during busy periods.
- Good communication skills and an enjoyment of working as part of a small team.
- An understanding of basic hygiene and safe working practices.
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends.
- Previous kitchen or hospitality experience would be welcome, but no formal qualifications are required.
