Our Christmas Helpers

Celebrating Christmas at The Newt in Somerset is a truly enchanting experience. At the heart of it all lies our much-loved Meet St Nicholas experience – a key pillar of our festive programme. The Gardener’s Cottage is transformed into a luxurious grotto, where St Nicholas takes up residence, and we need warm, vibrant Christmas Helpers (our very own elves!) to make the magic happen. Working alongside St Nicholas, you’ll welcome families, spread festive cheer, and create unforgettable memories this season.

Key Responsibilities

Give a warm, characterful welcome to all visiting families
Keep the festive spirit alive while guests await their time with St Nicholas
Support St Nicholas with gift-giving and photo opportunities
Manage bookings and keep visits running smoothly and on time
Assist with grotto logistics including guest flow and ticketing
Ensure every child’s experience is as magical as the first of the day
Wear and maintain a festive costume in character throughout

What we're looking for

DBS checked (essential) or willing to be DBS checked
Warm, approachable and able to embody the spirit of a Christmas Helper/Elf
Energetic and vibrant, with the ability to delight guests of all ages
Confident in public speaking and comfortable engaging with children
Excellent verbal communication skills
Background in acting, performance, or entertainment (desired)
Comfortable wearing festive costume throughout the day
Strong time management and team spirit
