Our Market Gardener

Join our Market Garden team and play a hands-on role in growing the exceptional seasonal produce served across The Newt’s hospitality venues. From sowing and planting to cultivating, harvesting, washing and delivering fresh produce to our kitchens, you’ll be involved in every stage of the growing journey. This is a fantastic opportunity to develop your practical horticultural skills in a professional market garden while experiencing first-hand the connection between our gardens, food and hospitality.


Key Responsibilities

  • Sow, plant, cultivate, weed, water, harvest and prepare produce for our kitchens.
  • Help establish and maintain crops across our polytunnels and outdoor growing areas.
  • Monitor crops and report signs of pests, disease, weeds or other growing issues.
  • Support pest, predator and disease management while following relevant procedures and regulations.
  • Maintain clean, tidy and beautifully presented growing areas, tools and workspaces.
  • Work closely with the Market Garden Supervisor and wider gardening team to deliver daily and seasonal priorities.
  • Develop your understanding of crop planning, seasonal production and supplying professional kitchens.
  • Support with Market Garden tours, workshops and other guest-facing activities as required, sharing knowledge and enthusiasm for seasonal growing and food production.

What we're looking for

  • A genuine enthusiasm for horticulture, plants and food production, with a willingness to learn and develop.
  • Basic practical horticultural knowledge and experience of sowing, planting, watering, weeding and harvesting.
  • A hardworking, hands-on approach with excellent attention to detail and pride in your work.
  • Confident speaking to groups and engaging with guests, with a passion for sharing horticultural knowledge in an approachable and inspiring way.
  • Confidence using and caring for common gardening tools and equipment safely.
  • An understanding of basic plant health, pests and diseases and the ability to report issues appropriately.
  • Comfortable undertaking physical work outdoors in all weather conditions and adapting to changing seasonal priorities.
  • A full UK driving licence.
  • Previous experience in a market garden, kitchen garden, nursery or similar horticultural setting, or a relevant horticultural qualification such as RHS Level 2 or equivalent, would be an advantage.

The Market Garden grows a diverse range of exceptional, seasonal produce for The Newt’s hospitality venues, working closely with the kitchens to plan, grow, harvest and deliver fresh produce throughout the year.

Working as part of the wider Garden Department, the team combines high-quality horticulture with a strong connection between the gardens, food and hospitality.
