Step into the past and create unforgettable guest experiences in our buzzing and historic exhibition spaces.

Our Exhibits Host

As an Exhibits Host, you’ll bring to life two of our most immersive visitor experiences: Beezantium, an interactive beehive-inspired exhibition, and The Roman Villa Experience, a full-scale reconstruction where Hosts wear Roman tunics and guide guests through ancient history.

Your role blends visitor interaction with operational care — greeting and checking in guests, guiding them through exhibitions, answering questions, wearing period dress when appropriate, and supporting the safe and polished daily running of the spaces. You’ll be comfortable working across indoor and outdoor environments and confident communicating with guests of all ages.

What we can offer

  • A positive workplace environment with opportunities to develop both personally and professionally.
  • Stay in shape with complimentary use of our gym and wellbeing classes
  • Look after your wellbeing with complimentary access to our Spa and swimming pools and our exclusive benefit of 50% off Spa Treatments.
  • Enjoy shopping in both our shops on estate and online with 30% discount for all our colleagues and free delivery for any online purchases.
  • Discover exclusive perks with our discounted hotel stays for staff, accompanied by a fantastic 30% discount at our restaurants.
  • Complimentary garden membership for the Newt and our partner gardens including the Eden Project, Kew Gardens and The Lost Gardens of Heligan
  • Complimentary meal whilst on shift, created using fresh produce from our estate by our dedicated staff food chefs
  • We value your hard work and recognise your achievements through our colleague recognition programme “Newt Awards” with the opportunity to achieve a variety of amazing rewards including a complimentary Hotel Stay.
  • Support from our Employee Assistance Programme for both yourself and your family
  • A team that knows how to have fun with regular team engagement activities including monthly Gather and Grow Motivational Speakers and our regular fun squad events, which include activities such as Go-Karting and Wine Tasting, to name but a few.
  • Up to 30 days annual leave each year for our full-time team

What We’re Looking For

We’re after people who love talking to guests, sharing stories, and making history feel alive.

You’ll Need

  • Experience in guest-facing roles or visitor attractions
  • Basic confidence with tech (tablets, booking systems, digital interactives)
  • A love of history, nature, storytelling, or visitor engagement
  • A readiness to work weekends and occasional evenings

Bonus Points For

  • A background in tour guiding, heritage crafts, or re-enactments
  • Enthusiasm for dressing in Roman tunics as part of the role
  • Studies in History, Classics, Archaeology, Anthropology (GCSEs, A-Levels or Degree)

Where you'll be working - Our Exhibits Team

The Exhibits Team is responsible for delivering high-quality, informative, and engaging visitor experiences across specific areas of The Newt estate. This role focuses on two key exhibition spaces:

  • Beezantium – a purpose-built, immersive space combining living beehives and interactive displays that explore the importance of honeybees.
  • The Roman Villa Experience – a large-scale reconstruction of a Romano-British villa, complete with archaeological displays and period-dressed interpretation.

Exhibits Hosts work across both sites, supporting the day-to-day running of these exhibitions, delivering visitor engagement, and ensuring safety and presentation standards are maintained.

The team operates under the supervision of the Exhibitions Manager and Lead Host, and forms part of the wider Visitor Engagement offering at The Newt in Somerset.
