Lead with impact. Build with purpose. Power the estate of tomorrow, as our Head of Engineering.
Our Head of Engineering
As Head of Engineering, you’ll be the driving force behind the smooth operation of all physical and digital assets across our estate. From buildings and vehicles to CCTV and IT infrastructure, you’ll ensure our systems are maintained to the highest standards, while proactively planning for what comes next.
Reporting directly to our CEO, you’ll play a vital role in shaping the future of the estate’s infrastructure — translating vision into action, and ensuring every system supports the wider mission of excellence. We're looking for someone who brings structure and rigour to the everyday – a planner and a doer, with a talent for embedding reliability and innovation across the board.
This is more than a technical leadership role – it's a long-term opportunity to shape culture, build loyalty, and inspire pride within a high-performing team. You’ll champion continuous improvement, elevate standards, and make sure that every behind-the-scenes detail contributes to an unforgettable guest experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the Engineering Department, leading both internal teams and external contractors
- Deliver estate-wide maintenance for buildings, plant, vehicles, IT, H&S and infrastructure
- Lead, develop and support a multidisciplinary team – from Maintenance to IT and Health & Safety
- Own the CMMS (Infraspeak), ensuring assets and workflows are optimised and data-driven
- Build and maintain effective scheduling and maintenance planning systems
- Create proactive and reactive maintenance plans aligned with estate goals
- Manage and report on engineering budgets, including capital investments
- Monitor, troubleshoot and evolve IT networks, CCTV, and telephony
- Drive continuous improvement in systems, processes, and performance
- Ensure asset lifecycle planning and preventative maintenance
- Contribute to a strong and reliable H&S culture, with support from the wider safety team
- Maintain a consistent on-site presence, supporting your team and keeping a pulse on estate needs
What we’re looking for
- A strategic operator with 7+ years in engineering or technical leadership
- Confident planning and scheduling lead, with a calm, organised mindset
- Visible and proactive – you regularly walk the site and lead from the front
- Clear communicator who can make decisions and speak with honesty
- Loyal and committed to building a positive, long-term team culture
- Driven by excellence and continuous improvement across systems and standards
- Experienced in using CMMS software (Infraspeak a plus) and BMS platforms
- Skilled in managing multidisciplinary teams, budgets, and capital projects
- Familiar with IT networks, CCTV and estate infrastructure (bonus if in hospitality)
- Holds a relevant engineering degree and full, clean UK driving licence
What we can offer
- A positive workplace environment with opportunities to develop both personally and professionally
- Stay in shape with our complimentary use of our gym and wellbeing classes
- Look after your wellbeing with complimentary access to our Spa and swimming pools and our exclusive benefit of 50% off Spa Treatments
- Enjoy shopping in both our shops on estate and online with 30% discount for all our colleagues and free delivery for any online purchases
- Discover exclusive perks with our discounted hotel stays for staff, accompanied by a fantastic 30% discount at our restaurants
- Complimentary garden membership for The Newt and our partner gardens including the Eden Project, Kew Gardens and The Lost Gardens of Heligan
- Complimentary staff meal each shift – crafted by our dedicated kitchen team, often featuring fresh produce from our estate
- We value your hard work and recognise your achievements through our colleague recognition programme “Newt Awards” with the opportunity to achieve a variety of amazing rewards including a complimentary Hotel Stay
- Support from our Employee Assistance Programme for both yourself and your family
- A team that knows how to have fun with regular team engagement activities including Fun Squad events, which include activities such as Go-Karting and Wine Tasting, to name but a few
- Up to 30 days annual leave each year for our full-time team
